Consecutive interpreting is a method of verbal translation in which the interpreter listens to what a speaker is saying, takes notes, and then, after the speaker has nished, conveys the message in another language. Unlike simultaneous interpreting, consecutive interpreting is carried out in segments, generally after the speaker has nished speaking.
The speaker speaks continuously for a period of time agreed in advance (up to 15 minutes), while the interpreter very quickly takes notes.
Once the speaker finishes, the interpreter speaks and repeats the speech in the target language, respecting the tone, style and intention of the original speaker.
The process continues, with the speaker and interpreter speaking and pausing in turn until the end of the contribution.
We offer a full consecutive interpreting service, tailored to your specific needs:
This solution does not require any special equipment apart from a basic sound system and speaker microphone. However, this type of interpreting requires a high level of technical ability on the part of the conference interpreter, and not all professionals are suitably skilled.
This method is ideal for official speeches and press conferences. However, it is not suitable for multilingual meetings or interactive events over an extended period of time because it results in a doubling of the speaking time.
When there are questions from the audience, the interpreter whispers in the speaker’s ear.
