FAQ

Interpreting involves the transfer of meaning from one language to another in spoken form.

The interpreter translates the words spoken by a speaker in a language that is not understood into the language of the audience, so that they can understand what is being said. The interpreter has to quickly analyse what is being said and communicate it in the other language, requiring him or her to be fluent in both languages. Interpreters are communicators.

Translation is the transfer of meaning from one language to another in written form. Professional translators specialise in a limited number of fields.  They have to be excellent editors and always work in their native language.

Machine translation post-editing is the reviewing and correction of a translation made by an AI-based computer program.  Translators who perform MTPE have to be excellent editors and always work in their native language.

Legal translation is a specialist discipline that involves the translation of documents written by legal professionals, such as notarial documents, contracts and other administrative texts.
Legal translation requires specialist expertise and a specific approach, as legal systems differ between countries. It also requires an especially rigorous process to guarantee the confidentiality of documents.

Sworn translation involves the certified translation of certain documents, such as procedural documents, documents issued by court enforcement officers/bailiffs or notarised deeds, etc. It involves official information that may need to be presented to administrations, institutions and authorities in France and abroad.
A sworn translator, who is a court-authorised legal official, certifies that a text is the true exact translation of an original document. In order for the document to be recognised as a sworn translation, the stamp or seal and signature of an officially-recognised court-authorised translator must be affixed to it.
Authorised by the French Cour de Cassation or Court of Appeal, the work of a sworn translator can assist with the administration of justice. He or she is therefore considered a court expert.
